Myths about Radon
When it comes to radon testing in Minneapolis,
we here at AmeriSpec Home Inspection Service are one of the area’s best. We
have uncovered several myths about radon, so we wanted to set the record
straight about a few of them and help dispel those myths.
First of all, some people think radon is not that big of a
problem, so radon testing is an unnecessary expense. This could not be further
from the truth! The Centers for Disease Control and the American Medical
Association both agree that radon causes lung cancer, and smokers are at an
even higher risk of developing lung cancer caused by radon than non-smokers.
Another myth is that radon testing is only needed on certain
kinds of homes. But all homes should be regularly tested for radon. There are
many different risk factors when it comes to radon, like the way the house was
constructed.
Also, there is a common belief that if a house tests
positively for radon, it means the house cannot be sold. This is also untrue.
If radon testing shows high levels of radon in a home, it simply means the
radon needs to be eliminated from the home before it should be sold. Getting
rid of radon is usually a pretty simple process, and it usually costs about as
much as other typical home repairs.
So is it true that if your neighbor’s home undergoes radon
testing and it comes up as negative, that means your home will be negative too?
Nope! Radon levels vary from home to home and location to location. So it is
still important for you to get regular radon testing done at your home too.
