Home Inspection Tips for Buyers in Minneapolis

If you've ever purchased a home before, you know how important it is to have a home inspection performed by a professional home inspector prior to closing on the house. Any purchase agreement should include wording that the sale is subject to your approval of such an inspection. It wouldn't be practical to have an inspector look at every property that you are considering, however, you can do some preliminary investigation on your own. You don't need to have all the qualifications of a professional inspector, but as you are looking at different properties, you may be able to spot typical signs of potential serious problems. Here are a few Minneapolis home inspection tips to guide you in your search to find a good property. As you walk around the outside of the house and the inside of the basement. Look for signs of cracks in the foundation. A hairline crack may not be a serious matter, but it is something that you will want an expert to check out before you buy. ...

Home Inspection: The Best Investment You Will Ever Make

Be sure to get a professional home inspection for your new Twin Cities home. A lot of folks tend to brush off the home inspection as a technicality. Some confuse it with a walk through just before taking possession to make sure that all of the appliances and fixtures are still there and that no one has poked holes in the walls. A formal home inspection is an extensive visual inspection of your entire home. When home inspectors do their job, they will be crawling through the attic, basement, and crawl spaces to check out the structure, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. They’ll be looking for signs of past or present water damage as well as more cosmetic problems. If there is electrical power and water available, they will check the operation of all the appliances, as well as the functionality of the faucets, showers, toilets, and drains. They will also check the exterior as part of the home inspection. They’ll be looking at the layout of the land for any signs of improper drainag...

What Do You Get from a Twin Cities Home Inspection?

Why should you have a professional Twin Cities home inspection company take a look at the property you're thinking of buying or selling? We asked this very question in a recent article and noted: You may not find pre-existing problems for weeks, months or even years after your purchase. A properly trained and qualified home inspector can usually detect potential trouble with your plumbing, electrical or mechanical home systems, as well as roofing or structural problems. They could also identify such things as moisture seepage and radon gas. It would be rare for the average home buyer to even know of all the possible dangers, let alone being able to spot them. So, you might be thinking you're saving a few dollars by not getting the home inspected, but you might be costing yourself a lot more than you would have spent. Eventually, problem properties will being to exhibit problems, and you'll find yourself with possible hefty repair costs. Experience is important in wha...

Why Home Inspections Are Important Before Purchase

Before you take the big step of purchasing a new home, it's highly recommended that you have a St Paul property inspections company like AmeriSpec check things out. If you don't heed this advice, you risk putting a lot of your money into an investment that's going to actually cost you more money in damages and repairs. Take the story of one inspector, who was called to a four month old home by the new owners, who complained of a "musty" odor in the master bedroom and bathroom. Upon inspection, the home inspector found three significant problems with the home that would have been caught with a pre-purchase inspection. The first: there were no bathroom exhaust fans installed. The second: the bath's drain was not even connected to the home drainage pipe. And lastly: mold growth had sprung up under the wallpaper near the tub. Unfortunately, the mold was of the toxic variety, and the home builder had gone out of business, so the homeowners were forced to pay ove...

Gillroy Dispatch on Home Inspections

Image
An online publication called the Gilroy Dispatch recently ran a story based around a question from a reader, who asked this: "My agent is recommending a lot of expensive inspections. What do I really need and why?" The article did a great job answering the question about why such inspections are necessary, and let the reader know that their real estate agent wasn't trying to make them spend a lot of money, but was instead making sure the reader, a potential home buyer, made an informed decision about the property they were looking to buy. "I’ve had buyers back out of deals after an inspection revealed expensive or unsafe conditions," said the article's author, Lee Schmidt. "Never once have they complained about the cost of the inspection. Look at it as money well spent to insure that you are making the right decision." Home inspectors look closely at a long list of different items. Inspectors with AmeriSpec Home Inspection Service, in part...

A Few Home Inspection Questions to Ask

Are you having a home inspection done on your MN home? Whether you're the buyer or the seller, this is a wise move, as a home inspection will alert you to flaws and potential problems with the structure, wiring, and systems located inside and outside of the home. When you've decided on a home inspection company, there are a few questions you can ask your inspector to get a feel for how qualified they are, and the type of job they're going to do. Ask about experience. How trained is this particular inspector to do a MN home inspection? Ask about the education the inspector received, as well as the amount of on-the-job experience they have. Ask questions during the process. A good home inspection specialist will expect to answer questions during the process. AmeriSpec specialists, for instance, welcome you to be present and walk through the inspection with the inspector so that you can ask any questions. Ask for a report afterwards. It's important that you know ...

What to Expect During a MN Home Inspection

Image
The most common time a home inspection is performed is during the sale of a home. A sale rarely goes through without a home inspection, simply because any deficiencies found with the home can provide savings for the buyer, or a warning for the buyer to look elsewhere for a home. A home inspection is the first intensive look at a MN home; digging deep to inspect every nook and cranny, and find all of the flaws. Most home inspectors will provide a list of items that need to be addressed once the home inspection is complete, and in some cases, the buyer will request that the necessary repairs are made to the trouble locations before the sale is finalized. If you're buying a MN home, don't skimp out on a home inspection ! It's a process that could wind up saving you a lot of money, or saving you from the potential dangers of a home that are otherwise unknown. And if you're looking for a good home inspection company to call, get in touch with AmeriSpec at (952) 854-5110...

Electronic Radon Testing

Image
In addition to our home inspection services, AmeriSpec also offers electronic radon testing . Radon is a radioactive gas that, in certain doses, is known to cause cancer. One of the most difficult things about radon detection is the fact that you can't see radon in the air. You can't smell it or taste it, either. But this doesn't mean the gas isn't present in your home. That's why it's important to test for it. AmeriSpec uses electronic radon detectors to test areas of your home and get radon reading levels. If levels are 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher, something will need to be taken care of inside your home to get the levels down to an acceptable range. Don't take a chance with radon. Contact AmeriSpec to schedule your home radon test today at (952) 854-5110.

Strange Home Inspection Sights

The job of a home inspector can have its exciting/scary moments, too. Some of our home inspection colleagues from around the country have encountered interesting, awkward, and sometimes dangerous situations while on duty, and they've been summed up in an article by This Old House called " Home Inspection Nightmares X ." Here are a few. This 12-inch roof rat decided to make an appearance when home inspector Brandon Dyles of Tennessee opened an attic door.   PA home inspector Joe Randazzo discovered an HVAC duct being supported by, yes, a piece of luggage with a brick on top. Something tells us the luggage and brick did not come with the system. An 8-foot boa constrictor guards this sub panel that Rick Hall of Connecticut had to access during a home inspection. This first photo is of Kevin manning our booth, and interacting with attendees. Here's another photo, featuring Kevin and legendary NFL quarterback Joe Theismann, who was the keynote speaker at the event. We enjoyed our time at the Day of Distinction event, and want to thank all of the attendees who stopped by the booth to say hi or chat about the home inspection services we provide. It was great to meet all of you!
